The Arc promotes the value and potential of all people.

The Arc of Northwest Wayne County was organized by parents who wanted services for their sons and daughters with developmental disabilities. Incorporated in 1961 as a charitable, non-profit organization, The Arc of Northwest Wayne County (The Arc NW) is affiliated with The Arc Michigan and The Arc of the United States forming the largest grassroots volunteer advocacy organization in the state and country.

The Arc NW provides information and assistance to empower individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Working to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities are valued and that they and their families can participate fully in and contribute to the life of their community.

Information is shared at meetings sponsored by The Arc NW, a monthly Events, website, an information and resource center, and through direct conversations with staff.

Individual assistance provided for education, housing, employment, transportation, recreation, and other areas of need.

Advocating across the life span for people with developmental disabilities and their families.

• Assisting parents to secure individualized education programs and appropriate supports for their children.

• Assisting individuals with disabilities to achieve their dreams through person-centered planning and self-determination.

• Assisting individuals to obtain and maintain benefits, including Social Security Disability, Supplemental SecurityIncome, Medicaid, and Family Support Subsidy.

• Assisting Individuals and their families to plan for the future.
