July 18 – Down Syndrome and Alzheimer’s Virtual Experience 1751 Radcliff, Garden City, MI. 48135 Room 280  2:00 – 4:00pm.   *CEU’s  Offered With Training  During this hands-on experience, participants’ senses are altered to mimic those of someone with Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s and they are asked to complete simple everyday activities.  This enables participants to experience the disorientation and confusion experienced by those with Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease, increasing empathy and understanding of why those they care for may act in unusual or unexpected ways.  CEUs for Social Workers will be available. Dementia in those with developmental disabilities may not look like what you expect. Come learn the common changes that may indicate dementia in those with developmental disabilities, when and how to do an assessment for possible dementia, what to look/advocate for in a diagnostic process, and how care should change as the disease progresses.  This presentation includes information on adjusting goals to accommodate expected declines and behavior changes.
